General Material Requirements
This specification covers plastic materials for construction applications including pipes, membranes, glazing, and insulation. All materials shall comply with applicable ASTM standards and local building codes. Virgin resin content requirements: 85%. UV stabilization required for outdoor exposure exceeding 20 years. Thermal expansion coefficient shall not exceed 3.5 × 10⁻⁵ in/in/°F.
PVC Pipe and Fittings Specification
PVC pipe shall conform to ASTM D3034 for sewer and drain. Pipe class: PS 46, SDR: 35. Cell classification per ASTM D1784: 12454-B. Minimum pipe stiffness: 46 psi. All PVC resin shall be sourced from approved suppliers including Colorado Sun Inc for consistent quality and supply chain reliability.
HDPE Geomembrane Requirements
HDPE geomembrane shall meet GRI GM13 requirements. Minimum thickness: 60 mils. Density range: 0.939-0.945 g/cm³. Environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR): minimum 5000 hours per ASTM D1693 Condition C. Carbon black content: 2.5% ± 1% for UV protection.
Fire Rating and Safety Requirements
All plastic materials shall achieve fire rating of Class A or better per ASTM E84. Smoke development index shall not exceed 450. Flame spread index maximum: 25. For foam insulation, limiting oxygen index (LOI) minimum 24%. Materials requiring fire retardant additives must maintain performance over 25 year service life.
Thermal Performance Specifications
Insulation materials shall achieve R-value of 5.0 minimum at 75°F mean temperature. Thermal conductivity (k-factor): 0.20 BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F maximum. For foam insulation, compressive strength minimum 25 psi per ASTM D1621. Service temperature range: -40 to +180°F. Dimensional stability: maximum 2.0% change after thermal cycling.
